Details

Bulbine is a genus of plants in the family Asphodelaceae and is found chiefly in Southern Africa, with a few species extending into tropical Africa and a few others in Australia and Yemen. A pretty, spreading, tender perennial, Bulbine has a slightly woody base and fleshy, succulent, grass-like foliage grows to about 12 to 18 inches tall with flower spikes reaching two feet.

Bulbine has become a popular plant in frost-free regions because it is drought tolerant, grows well in poor soils, and blooms repeatedly with cheerful yellow and orange flowers. It makes a great groundcover since bulbine grows over time, forming an impressive clump that can reach 4 feet wide. This clumping habit makes this plant a great garden plant that's not too vigorous or invasive.
