Quick Overview

It is gorgeous plant that thrives in our tropical and subtropical climates and it can even withstand drought once fully settled. Grow it in full sun if you want to have a lot of blooms. Fertilization is possible but not necessary, pruning is recommended if you want to give it a specific shape.

* Required Fields

Also called Peregrina, Jatropha trees are perfect for the butterfly-lovers out here who want to attract them! Native to the West Indies, the red jatropha is a flowering tree like no other. Its star-shaped flowers are appreciated by gardeners as well as its evergreen foliage. It is the perfect accent tree with its shiny flowers that attracts also all sorts of birds. Ideal if you love the feel of nature in your own backyard.

You can grow your jatropha up to 15 feet tall and it will be ideally placed near the entry, in a garden bed or as a backdrop for smaller plants. Along a driveway or a fence can also be a good idea.

Additional Ideas: it can give color or height to a blank wall and you can pair it with other plants that are drought resistant like Juniper or Indian Hawthorne.
