Details

Phoenix Roebelenii is one of the most widely used and easy to grow palm trees in landscaping. This variety of palm tree grows about 6 inches to 2 feet per year - and when mature - these palms are typically between six to ten feet in overall height. Phoenix roebelenii excels in containers of all kinds. They look great by patios and entry ways and as a focal point in a mass planting of annuals. Also nice combined with evergreen shrubs in a mixed hedge.

The trunks are quite thin, averaging three to six inches in diameter and are typically thick with fibers right below the crown of leaves. The trunks can be straight or somewhat curved and if planted at an angle, plants will eventually go upwards toward the sun. The leaves of the Phoenix Roebelenii are typically glossy green, silver-green, or darker green when grown in filtered light. The crown is often described as "delicate", "soft", or "lush". The overall crown is rounded with as many as thirty to fifty leaves.

Phoenix roebelenii are fairly easy to grow. They survive well in tropical and temperate regions and prefer full sun. Further inland and in desert areas, they do best in filtered light or partial sun. It’s best to give these palms some exposure to sunlight and rich, good draining soil. Average watering schedule is three times a week although specimens can tolerate a bit of drought. With ample water, Phoenix roebelenii take on a lush, tropical appearance.
