Also known as “Queen of the Tropics,” tropical hibiscus are sun-loving plants that grow best with 6 to 8 hours of direct light each day to bloom the most. They appreciate plenty of water, especially when grown in containers. Plant hibiscus or place pots in a location that receives all-day sunlight and follow a regular watering schedule during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system.

Fertilize hibiscus monthly with a general-purpose fertilizer, following the directions on the product packaging, to ensure they produce the most blooms possible. Whether you grow hibiscus in the ground or in a pot, the plant needs well-drained but moist soil. Potted plants require repotting into a pot one size larger when the roots fill the old container. Feed with a general purpose fertilizer before new growth begins in spring.

Seminole Pink Hibiscus make a great accent while planted or potted. Use them near the entry or corner of the house, as an anchor for a garden bed or as a backdrop for smaller shrubs and flowers.
